Applied Mechanics Laboratory, University of Patras (AML/UoP)  is part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, University of Patras (UoP). AML/UoP deals mainly with the general field of Materials and Structures, giving emphasis in the science, the technology and the applications of composite materials (organic, ceramic and metal matrix), monolithic ceramics and plastics. Research is conducted in a variety of areas which include (but not limited to) design and optimisation of composite structures, numerical analysis, FEM (Implicit and Explicit),manufacturing processes for composites and engineering plastics. It also carries out research into the different types of mateials such as smart and nano materials. AML is internationally recognized for its contribution in the respective fields through books, lectures, research papers, conferences, professional society activities and research co-operation within the frame of financially supported projects, both by national and international Institutions, mainly bythe EU.

Role in Project
The main contribution of UoP in WASIS will be on the safety assessment of the wafer section design under different level impact loads, for example hail strike, crash landing, etc, where it will lead the relevant WP. UoP will be also involved in other analysis and design activities including the dynamic analysis of the wafer structure and its damping characteristics. UoP will take up a role in certain testing tasks.
